Made up of basic stitches, this large, stuffed cactus looks more complex than it is.

9″x6″ in the pot, 6″x6″ without the pot.

For the cactus I used a little more than one skein (buy 2) Lion Brand 24/7 cotton yarn in Grass.

For the flower, a small amount of yellow cotton, and a small amount of dark pink, I used Lion Brand Coboo in Magenta.

Crochet hook size F

Polyfil for stuffing

6″ Plant pot and something to fill it 2/3 full. I placed a small box inside the pot and poured small decorative rocks over.

Fasten off

Thread the green yarn onto a tapestry needle and whipstitch the 6 panels together in pairs along the top three sides, leaving the flat bottom open. As you stitch them together slide the needle under only one strand on each side of your seam and as neatly as you can, the seams show more after they’re stuffed. Now you will have three sleeves. Thread more yarn onto the needle. Stack the sleeves on top of each other as perfectly matched up as you can. If one seems to be small put it to the middle of the stack and match it at the top. Starting at the top center, anchor your yarn and stitch through all thicknesses straight down the middle to the center of the flat bottom. Finish off. You will have 6 small openings big enough to get 2 fingers into, stuff these firmly with Polyfil.

Flower instructions: Make one. Note, the tr2tog is not hard to do, practice it a couple times until your interpretation of the instructions looks like the pictures below.

With yellow, ch 6, join with slst to 1st ch, forming a ring.
1st round. ch1, sc 9 around ring, cut yarn with a 1-2″ tail and knot pink yarn on. Continue by slst to the ch 1.(10)

2nd round. With pink, ch 4, tr2tog* in next stitch, ch 4 again and anchor it with a sc in the next stitch. Do this 5 times for 5 petals, fasten off. Stitch or glue to top of cactus. Place cactus in pot, enjoy!

*tr2tog- after the ch 4, yarn over twice, push hook through next yellow stitch and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops, twice, leaving two loops on hook(so don’t finish the treble and it will blend into the next treble), do it again by yarn over twice, push hook through the same yellow stitch and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops, twice, yarn over and pull through remaining three loops-then you chain 4 and anchor it with a sc in the next yellow stitch to finish petal.
